Summer Arts Camp
For the past four years, ESCA has provided free half-day art programming to elementary and middle school students each summer at Joseph George Middle School.
We are committed to creating content that is culturally relevant, highly engaging, and authentic. By doing so, East Side Community Arts encourages its participants to celebrate their heritage and culture through creativity and imagination.
Our summer arts program culminates each year with a Student Art Showcase, in which students share the artwork they have created, and perform works from their music, dance, and theatre classes. Field trips are also an integral part of our engagement model. Each year, students travel to the San Jose Museum of Art to participate in a "2-Part Art" tour in which they are given a tour of the museum, and then offered the chance to create art based on the exhibits they viewed.
For the fifth year in a row, students entering grades 3 and up were provided with the opportunity to engage their creativity and explore their imaginations in Summer 2015 at absolutely no cost to parents.
Courses offered last year included:
- Visual Art
- Video Production
- Textile Art
- Break Dance
Students entering grades 3-6 were grouped in elementary groups that experience all types of visual and performing arts. Students in middle school had the option to choose a "track" to focus on either visual or performing arts.
In addition, students visited the San Jose Museum of Art, the Tech Museum of Innovation, MACLA, and the San Jose Museum of Quilts and Textiles.
Information for the upcoming summer is available in the Summer 2017 tab.
